Ocean Maya for the 9th Time! Playa del Carmen, Mexico ~ May 2018

My mom and I took a trip to Ocean Maya Royale (a.k.a. my home away from home) in what was my 9th visit. It was my mom’s 2nd stay and we had a great time. I had planned the trip back in November after finding a reasonable rate and great airfare. It was a spontaneous trip booked with plenty of months of anticipation. Steve and I had just visited in January 2018, so I didn’t expect much to have changed. Sounds like perfection!

Vacation began with a Cavs Playoff game on Friday night. It was game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Boston. The Cavs were down 2-3 in the series, so it was win or go home. The Cavs pulled out the 109-99 victory and my mom and I were headed to paradise!

The next morning I surprised my mom with first class seats. She had no idea until we actually got to our seats! She said “I’ve never been the first one on the plane before…” It was hysterical. The flight was quick and uneventful and we arrived at the Cancun airport at 8:30 am local time.

As soon as we stepped foot onto the resort we were treated like family. The warm welcome from Miguel, Dafne and the rest of the staff was priceless!

Like my previous eight stays, we enjoyed the food a lot. Jorge at Blue Moon treated us like queens during every visit. The filet was our favorite, followed by the saffron pasta with shrimp. We also enjoyed the soups and dessert!

The ambiance at La Dolce is always hard to resist. Listening to the waves as you enjoy beef Carpaccio along with the best salmon dish at the resort is almost too good to be true.

Breakfast and lunch at Privilege was always relaxing. Not only did it have the best view, but the service from Manuel was always top-notch. My favorite breakfast items were the fruit plate with ham and cheese croissants and an egg on the side. There were several new lunch items that I thoroughly enjoyed! The fish tacos, chicken sandwich and caprese pita were a daily staple.

We stopped in at the buffet a few times during our stay. We ate breakfast and lunch here once and then for a snack near dinner time.

I never had a doubt that my mom and I would enjoy a trip like this together. Pools, sun, food, drinks and relaxation. What’s not to love? Our daily routine was pretty consistent with what Steve and I do when we visit. Up early, breakfast, pool, lunch, pool, nap, drinks, dinner, drinks…repeat every day. Rough life, huh?

Of course, pool time and drink time went hand in hand. We had matching floats that were the envy of many!

And of course the foam party was fun…because you truly haven’t lived until you’ve experienced a foam party with your 72-year-old mother J

Before and after dinner we typically ventured to the lobby bar for a cocktail. Yovanetti, Tila and Anna took great care of us!

We watched two Cavs Playoffs games during our stay. Having visited during Cavs Playoffs two years ago, I knew what to expect…no one cares! We ended up having a few of our new “friends” join us for Game One of the NBA Finals J

Mom and I had so much fun and relaxation during my 9th visit to Ocean Maya Royale! We were totally in sync with the same agenda every day. It was a mommy and me trip that we’ll never forget and she’s already planning her next visit! I had no doubt my friends would treat mi mama like their own. Thank you again to Miguel, Rodrigo, Karolina, Dafne, Manuel, Victor, Jorge, Yovanetti, Tila, Anna, Mario and the rest of my OMR crew for another fabulous time. I’ll see you in July!
